Cabinet Reshuffle on the Horizon

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar indicated on Thursday that a cabinet reshuffle is on the way, asserting that there is nothing wrong with Congress leaders aspiring for ministerial or chief ministerial positions. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar noted that when the Chief Minister has announced an impending reshuffle, it is natural for everyone to desire a ministerial or chief ministerial role. They are free to pursue these ambitions, and there is no issue with that.

Internal Struggles Within Congress

This potential reshuffle comes at a time when the Congress government is grappling with internal strife, particularly from Shivakumar's supporters who are advocating for his appointment as Chief Minister for the remaining two years of the term, citing the 2023 'power-sharing agreement.' To mitigate rising tensions between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, several meetings have been held. Both leaders have emphasized that the party's high command will make the final decision on this matter.

Shivakumar's Recent Delhi Visit

Regarding his recent trip to Delhi, Shivakumar shared that he met with several MPs to discuss Karnataka's concerns that the state government wishes to raise in Parliament. He also mentioned plans to meet with the central government to address the Mahadayi river dispute involving Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra. He stated, 'I met with MPs in Delhi and informed them about the issues to be raised in Parliament. One day, we will approach the central government regarding various matters, including the Mahadayi river.'

Planning for Assam Assembly Elections

Additionally, D.K. Shivakumar participated in a Congress meeting aimed at strategizing for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. He mentioned on X that he attended a strategy meeting in New Delhi led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alongside senior observers, members of the screening committee, and the AICC general secretary in charge of Assam. 'With unity and renewed resolve, we will strive to meet the expectations of the people of Assam,' he stated.
