Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar Meets Former CM Siddaramaiah Amid Cabinet Expansion Speculations
Meeting Between Karnataka Leaders
On Wednesday, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar held a meeting with former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his residence in Bengaluru. Shivakumar shared insights from their discussion on social media, indicating that they engaged in talks regarding the ongoing speculations about a potential cabinet expansion in Karnataka. Sources suggest that both leaders are expected to meet with the Congress high command in New Delhi on July 18 to deliberate on the cabinet expansion.
Following discussions with senior party officials, a decision on this matter is anticipated.
Cabinet Expansion Discussions
Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi acknowledged the ongoing rumors about the cabinet expansion during a media interaction on Monday. He mentioned a saying that implies it will eventually happen. Regarding reports of senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad being appointed as a minister, he stated that he was unaware of such developments, emphasizing that the high command would make the final decision.
Previously, on June 24, the Congress high command warned legislators, religious leaders, and community representatives against lobbying for ministerial positions in D.K. Shivakumar's cabinet, urging them to exercise patience.
Community Demands for Cabinet Positions
In recent weeks, various community representatives, religious leaders, and supporters have publicly demanded cabinet positions for their respective MLAs. Several delegations have met with senior leaders in Bengaluru and Delhi. In Ballari, supporters of MLA J.N. Ganesh from Kampli recently organized a march to advocate for ministerial roles. A senior official from the AICC stated that the party is aware of the expectations of all legislators. However, decisions will be made based on regional balance, social representation, and performance, rather than through pressure tactics.
Current Cabinet Composition
Following Siddaramaiah's resignation, Shivakumar's current cabinet consists of 14 members, including Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara. Priyank Kharge oversees the Home Ministry, while Siddaramaiah's son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, serves as the Urban Development Minister.
