Karnataka Congress MLA Expresses Disappointment Over Cabinet Exclusion

Discontent Among Congress Legislators

B.R. Patil, a Congress MLA from the Aland constituency in Karnataka, expressed his disappointment on Thursday regarding his exclusion from the state cabinet. He mentioned that he had already shared his feelings of "pain and distress" in a Facebook post and felt there was nothing more to add. In a conversation with a news media outlet, Patil highlighted that he had raised an alleged vote theft issue before the state Congress leadership, which was later brought to national attention by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. He stated, "I have shared all my pain and distress on my Facebook page. There is nothing more to say; it is just unfortunate."

Allegations of Vote Theft

Referring to the alleged vote theft incident, Patil explained that he had presented the matter to the state party. Subsequently, Rahul Gandhi elevated it to a national issue. He noted that prior to this, many in Congress were skeptical about the vote theft claims. However, in his case, everyone believed him because he had evidence. Despite consistently advocating for farmers, laborers, and women, he lamented that he was not given a position in the cabinet. "I have always fought for farmers, laborers, and women. Yet, the high command did not consider me, and this was not mentioned anywhere," he added.

Reflections on Cabinet Membership

The Congress legislator acknowledged that becoming a minister is not a fundamental right and recognized that not every MLA can be included in the cabinet. He remarked, "Being an MLA or minister is not a fundamental right. It is not possible for everyone to hold such positions." Nevertheless, Patil claimed that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had assured him three times that he would be included in the cabinet. "Siddaramaiah assured me three times that I would become a minister. I hoped for that, but it did not happen," he concluded.
