Siddaramaiah Stands Firm on Chief Ministership

On the final day of the Karnataka Assembly session in Belagavi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah firmly rejected claims regarding a two-and-a-half-year power-sharing agreement, asserting his position as the current Chief Minister. Responding to repeated inquiries and disruptions from the opposition regarding his tenure, Siddaramaiah clarified that no such agreement exists and that he will remain in office until the party's high command makes a decision.

He emphasized the importance of public support before electing a leader in the legislative party meeting, followed by a decision from the high command. "I have only stated that I am still the Chief Minister, and I will continue to be so until the high command decides otherwise," he remarked. In response, BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashok, questioned the legitimacy of a two-and-a-half-year term, stating that the assembly had elected him for five years.

Siddaramaiah clearly stated, "I have not mentioned anything about two and a half years. There is no such agreement. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to serve his full term, expressing confidence in returning to power in 2028. He stated, "I will remain the Chief Minister until the high command instructs otherwise."

Speculation had been rife about whether the Congress high command would appoint D.K. Shivakumar as Chief Minister. However, following a breakfast meeting between the two leaders at each other's residences and a joint press conference to showcase party unity, the party provided clarification. Earlier, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar dismissed ongoing rumors about a dinner meeting, stating, "Who said that? There was no dinner meeting or anything of that sort. I went to pay tribute to my former DCC president at his home. He has contributed significantly to Karnataka and Belagavi, and I went to honor him with my friends. There is no politics involved in this."
