Siddaramaiah's Optimism for Congress in Bagalkot

On Tuesday, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed that the public support for Congress candidate Umesh Meti in the Bagalkot assembly by-election is "far beyond expectations." Speaking to reporters during the election campaign, he noted that the atmosphere surrounding the by-election is favorable for Congress. Siddaramaiah expressed confidence in Meti's victory, who is contesting for the seat that became vacant following the death of his father, H.Y. Meti. The Chief Minister also highlighted the late H.Y. Meti's contributions, stating that he worked tirelessly for the development of Bagalkot and the prosperity of all communities.

Response to BJP's Comments

In response to the BJP's remarks regarding his extensive campaign in Bagalkot, Siddaramaiah claimed that the opposition party is making such statements out of fear of defeat in Karnataka. He further mentioned that it is a tradition of Congress to grant tickets to the families of deceased legislators, citing similar decisions made in Davanagere and Bagalkot.

Comments on Leadership and Political Dynamics

Addressing comments from BJP leader Narayanaswamy regarding the Chief Minister's position, Siddaramaiah stated that he would adhere to the decisions of the Congress high command and would not respond to BJP's statements. Earlier this month, Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, claimed that Siddaramaiah is a "caretaker Chief Minister" as he is preparing to resign.

Allegations Against BJP and Election Updates

Siddaramaiah also accused the BJP of neglecting the establishment of a medical college in Bagalkot during their tenure and failing to provide relief to farmers under the Krishna Upper River Project. He reiterated the significant role of H.Y. Meti in the region's development. Referring to political developments in Davanagere South, he mentioned that Congress candidate wrestler Sadik has been persuaded to withdraw from the election. Additionally, Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed will participate in the campaign.
