Chief Minister's Stance on Resignation Threats

Bengaluru, August 4 - In response to the threats of resignation from disgruntled legislators due to their exclusion from the cabinet expansion, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar took a strong stance on Tuesday. He emphasized the importance of the party, stating that if anyone chooses to resign, their resignation would be accepted within minutes. The Chief Minister urged the dissatisfied legislators to exercise patience and wait for opportunities, assuring them that positions in government boards and corporations would soon be filled.


When questioned about the resignation threats, Shivakumar remarked, “I have said what I needed to say... Resignations are a common occurrence in politics.” He added, “No one can stop those who wish to resign. If they value the party and their future, the party must come first. If the party exists, everything else follows.”


He further noted, “I could have resigned too, as I was not made a minister during the tenures of Dharam Singh and Siddaramaiah.” He questioned, “Didn’t both Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwara and I show patience? When Veerendra Patil was the Chief Minister, neither Bangarappa nor Kharge (AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge) nor Dharam Singh were appointed as ministers. Did Bangarappa and Singh not later become Chief Ministers?”


Shivakumar concluded by stressing the need for patience, stating, “One must learn to be patient.”
