Karnataka Chief Minister Announces Special Assembly Session for MGNREGA

Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a special assembly session aimed at urging the central government to reinstate the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This decision comes as part of the Congress party's broader 'Save MGNREGA' movement, discussed during a recent meeting with party legislators. The Congress is advocating for the repeal of a new employment law and the restoration of MGNREGA as it was under the previous government. This initiative highlights the party's commitment to rural employment and livelihood security.
 

Special Assembly Session to Address MGNREGA

On Thursday, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced plans to convene a special session of the state assembly. The session aims to pass a resolution urging the central government to reinstate the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).


This announcement was made during a meeting with Congress legislators held at a hotel, where discussions centered around the party's nationwide 'Save MGNREGA' movement.


Present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, along with all state ministers, Congress legislators, and members of the legislative council.


The Congress party has called for the central government to repeal the 'Developed India - Employment and Livelihood Mission Guarantee (Rural) (VB-G RAM G)' law and restore the MGNREGA as it was during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era.
