Bengaluru, Aug 21: In a demonstration against alleged irregularities within the tribal welfare corporation, BJP MLAs and MLCs in Karnataka, dressed in black T-shirts, faced resistance from security personnel at the Vidhana Soudha entrance on Friday as they demanded the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra.

The protest commenced near the Maharshi Valmiki statue at the Legislators' House, led by BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, along with R. Ashoka, the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.

The legislators sported black T-shirts emblazoned with slogans like “This community should get justice” and “Corrupt Minister B. Nagendra should resign.”

As they attempted to march towards Vidhana Soudha, they were halted by marshals and police, who enforced a rule prohibiting entry for legislators wearing T-shirts.

Despite the obstruction, the BJP members insisted on entering the assembly, with R. Ashoka urging them to push through the security barrier.

They chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” as they forced their way into the Vidhana Soudha.

During the protest, the legislators voiced concerns regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds from the tribal welfare corporation.

R. Ashoka remarked, “Despite substantial evidence, the Congress party has stalled the session for one individual accused of embezzling funds intended for Dalits. Is this acceptable? Are there no other Dalit leaders available? Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara claimed in the House that Minister Nagendra is innocent, yet there are 31 cases against him.”

He added, “The Supreme Court has established criteria for ministerial appointments. A CBI chargesheet exists. I have made all documents public, yet the government remains skeptical? They should dismiss him and allow the session to proceed.”

Ashoka further accused the Congress of adopting an anti-Dalit position, alleging that the misappropriated funds were funneled to Rahul Gandhi’s residence and used for election purposes. He suggested that if Minister Nagendra were to be dismissed, the Congress leadership feared he would disclose critical information.

B.Y. Vijayendra, during the protest, asserted that the BJP's agitation would persist beyond the current legislative session.

He stated, “The Chief Minister’s and ruling party’s unwavering support for corrupt Minister Nagendra highlights that the government is complicit with corruption.”

Vijayendra questioned, “While embezzling funds meant for Dalits, were Minister Nagendra and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal unaware that they were stealing from Dalits?”
