BJP's Vijayendra Questions Congress Leadership
Karnataka's BJP President, B.Y. Vijayendra, targeted the newly appointed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday, asserting that the Congress government has squandered the last three years in internal power struggles. He expressed concerns that the next two years would be spent on preserving the Chief Minister's position rather than effectively governing the state. In an interview with a media outlet, Vijayendra remarked that the change in leadership would not bring significant relief to the people of Karnataka. He attributed the government's failure in development to ongoing conflicts within the Congress party.
Allegations of Ineffectiveness and Lobbying
Vijayendra further claimed that the Congress administration has achieved nothing in the past three years due to internal discord. He accused D.K. Shivakumar of focusing on securing the Chief Minister's role rather than addressing the state's needs. Regarding the formation of the cabinet, he alleged that numerous Congress legislators are lobbying intensely in Delhi for ministerial positions. Vijayendra also suggested that Shivakumar views the inclusion of leaders from the Siddaramaiah faction, such as B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan and H.C. Mahadevappa, as a challenge to be avoided.
Concerns Over Corruption and Governance
Additionally, the Karnataka BJP leader warned that corruption may escalate under the new leadership and criticized the Congress government for failing to instill confidence in governance-related issues. Referring to the alleged garbage tender controversy, Vijayendra challenged the government to hand over the matter to the CBI if it is genuinely committed to combating corruption.
