Guwahati, July 27: The Karbi-language film ‘Kangbo Aloti - The Lost Path’, directed by Khanjan Kishore Nath, has been awarded the German Star of India 2026 for Best Feature Film at the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart in Germany.
The jury hailed the film as a landmark in Karbi cinema, highlighting its portrayal of the Karbi movement from the early 2000s. It received accolades for its stunning cinematography, subtle direction, and poignant storytelling.
Moreover, the jury emphasized the film's strong message promoting education and awareness over violence.
In response to this prestigious recognition, director Khanjan Kishore Nath expressed that this moment is profoundly emotional for the entire production team.
"Being acknowledged at an international film festival is an incredible experience. This award is a tribute to every team member and the Karbi community, whose narratives and culture inspired our work. We are grateful that our film has connected with audiences beyond India," Khanjan, a native of Nagaon, shared.
He further mentioned that this accolade would motivate filmmakers from the Northeast to continue sharing authentic stories that reflect their cultural heritage.
"This recognition empowers us to keep creating films that showcase our people, history, and identity. I hope it encourages more filmmakers from Assam and the Northeast to realize that regional narratives can captivate a global audience," Khanjan added.
Previously, the film was honored with the Special Jury Award at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival and has been featured in various prestigious festivals, including the Bengaluru International Film Festival, Guwahati International Film Festival, South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, North East India Film Festival in Manipur, Arunachal Film Festival, and Habitat Film Festival in New Delhi.
Khanjan, a National Award-winning director, received the Rajat Kamal for his short film ‘Kachichinithu’ (The Boy with a Gun) in 2020. His previous works, such as ‘Chor’ (The Bicycle) and ‘Ata Nirjan Duporiya’, have also garnered accolades at film festivals both in India and internationally.
The film is produced by Ranjit Teron, featuring cinematography by Parashmani Bora, editing by Cherchumbi Terang, sound design by Debajit Gayan, and music by Stephan Kara. The cast includes Harmony Bey, Rajiv Kro, Malin Ingti, Ranjit Teron, Dilip Bey, Rang Mukrang, Lankiram Kro, Rengka Ingti, and Gautam Ingti.
This international recognition is anticipated to enhance the global visibility of Assamese and Karbi-language cinema, showcasing the region's filmmaking talent to a wider audience.
