Severe Heatwave Hits Karachi

In Karachi, a severe heatwave has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least ten individuals, primarily due to soaring temperatures in Pakistan's Sindh province. Reports indicate that five bodies were found in various areas of the city on Monday, while another five succumbed to heatstroke while receiving medical care, according to Faisal Edhi from the Edhi Welfare Trust, which manages a vast network of healthcare facilities and shelters.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that Karachi experienced its hottest day since 2018, with temperatures exceeding 44°C. This extreme heatwave is part of a larger trend of increasing heat events across South Asia, attributed to climate change.

On Saturday, the PMD had already issued a heatwave warning for Karachi and several districts within Sindh. The forecast indicated persistently hot and dry conditions for the upcoming days, as reported by The Express Tribune.

Residents of Karachi are also grappling with frequent power outages and load shedding, further complicating their daily lives.
