Kapil Dev Backs Jasprit Bumrah's Bowling Amid Concerns

Kapil Dev, the former captain of India, has come forward to support Jasprit Bumrah amidst rising concerns regarding his fitness. However, he also raised alarms about the unique bowling action of the right-arm pacer.

Bumrah's fitness has been a hot topic during the current Test series against England. He was rested for the second Test after the team lost the first match, but India managed to secure a victory without their star bowler.

In the ongoing fourth Test, Bumrah faced challenges with his performance, conceding over 100 runs in a single innings for the first time in his career. He ended up giving away 112 runs while taking 2 wickets as England amassed a staggering total of 669 runs.

Kapil Dev on Bumrah's Bowling Action

During the announcement of the PGTI Schedule, Kapil Dev discussed Bumrah's bowling style. He praised him as one of the top bowlers currently but noted that his unconventional action may lead to increased physical stress.

“Every player is unique. Times have evolved, and so have the bodies. It's hard to make a fair assessment. He is indeed one of our finest fast bowlers, but his action is quite unusual, making it tough to maintain over time,” Kapil remarked.

“We never anticipated he would last this long due to the strain his action puts on his body. Yet, he continues to perform for the Indian team, which is commendable,” he added.

Despite his struggles in the fourth Test, Bumrah has been a standout performer in the series, having taken 12 wickets across the first and third Tests, including two five-wicket hauls.
