Kanhaiya Kumar Demands Supreme Court Oversight on Ayodhya Temple Donation Scandal
Kanhaiya Kumar Calls for Investigation into Ayodhya Temple Donations
On Saturday, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar urged for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the alleged donation scam related to the Ayodhya Ram Temple. He also raised concerns regarding the credibility of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) assigned to the case. Kumar described the misappropriation of donations as a grave sin and demanded the immediate dissolution of the trust managing the temple. During a press conference, he stated, 'There has been theft. A great sin has occurred in the temple. Those responsible for the theft must be apprehended without any conditions.'
Concerns Over SIT Leadership
Kumar criticized the leadership of the SIT, questioning the integrity of a person involved in a fraud case leading the investigation. He posed a rhetorical question about whether a thief could be entrusted with preventing theft, likening it to asking a cat to guard milk. He accused the BJP and RSS of exploiting religion for political gain, asserting that Congress would not respond in kind but would focus on uniting people around issues that matter to them, rather than religious controversies.
Allegations Against the Ruling Party
He further accused the ruling party of attempting to control religious institutions for political advantages. Kumar emphasized that while Congress would not engage in politics in the name of religion, it would question the alleged misuse of donations made by devotees. He reiterated the need for the trust managing the temple to be disbanded immediately, highlighting that the temple's construction followed a Supreme Court ruling and that the investigation should also be conducted under the court's supervision. He insisted that accountability should extend beyond minor staff to all involved, from Ayodhya to Delhi.
Kumar's Strong Stance on Accountability
Reiterating his point, Kumar asked, 'Is there a greater sin than theft occurring within the temple?' He insisted that those responsible must be held accountable. He also condemned the BJP for criticizing Congress on this issue, pointing out that the government is in control, and the trust is under their oversight. He remarked that when questions about theft arise, the Congress party is suddenly remembered by the ruling party.
