Kangra MP Engages with Union Railway Minister

Rajiv Bhardwaj, the Member of Parliament representing Kangra–Chamba, recently met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi for a courtesy visit. The discussion centered around several important railway issues affecting his constituency.

Bhardwaj described the meeting as productive, emphasizing the need for enhancements in railway connectivity and infrastructure within the region. Key topics addressed included:

1. Resumption of Pathankot–Jogindernagar Train Service
   Bhardwaj called for the prompt reinstatement of the Pathankot–Jogindernagar train service. In response to rumors about the service potentially operating from Dalhousie Road station, the Railway Minister confirmed that it would continue from Pathankot station and assured its restoration at the earliest opportunity.


2. Conversion to Broad Gauge
   The MP also advocated for the conversion of the Pathankot–Jogindernagar railway line to broad gauge. The Minister indicated that directives would be issued shortly to facilitate the necessary procedures.


3. Expansion of Rail Network in Chamba
   Bhardwaj reiterated the importance of extending railway connectivity to the Chamba district. The Minister promised that a survey for this initiative would be conducted soon.


4. Restoration of Vande Bharat Train Stop
   The discussion included the restoration of the Vande Bharat Express's stop at Pathankot Cantt, which had been suspended following last year's monsoon disruptions. The Minister acknowledged this concern and explored the possibility of reinstating the stop.


5. Rail Links to Religious Sites
   Bhardwaj proposed connecting the Amb–Andora and Daulatpur railway lines to significant religious sites in the Kangra area, including temples such as Jwala Ji, Chamunda Devi, Brajeshwari Devi, and Baglamukhi. The Minister assured that appropriate actions would be taken by the department.
