KANGRA — Recently, the Kangra MC Ground hosted an exciting event that showcased not just statistics but the sheer enthusiasm of local players.

In a distinctive cricket match featuring popular singers and social media influencers, the local team, the Kangra Boys, captured the audience's attention as they transitioned from informal street cricket to their inaugural professional match using a leather ball.

A Shift to Professional Play

For team members Puneet, Sachin, and Rajat, moving from the casual 'gully' cricket they grew up with to the serious nature of a leather ball match marked a significant achievement.

Although they are well-known in the digital realm, the thrill of playing on a professional pitch was a new and exhilarating experience.

"We’ve played numerous matches in our village, but stepping onto a professional ground with a leather ball for the first time was a completely different experience," the trio expressed.

Beyond Their Online Persona

While the Kangra Boys have become popular figures in Himachal Pradesh for their comedic content, their success did not come easily. Sachin shared insights into the hard work that led to their rise:

  • The Challenge: Nearly two years of relentless effort before they gained recognition.

  • The Goal: To ensure that each video combines humor with a significant social message.
Puneet revealed the essence behind their viral character, 'Chamkeelo.'

"Every family has a 'Chamkeelo' character. This relatability is why audiences connect with us. We aim to create scripts that everyone can enjoy together," he added.

With over 130 videos produced, Rajat pointed out that while social media is their career, sports remain their true passion.

This enthusiasm was palpable on the field, as the Kangra Boys exhibited remarkable teamwork and energy, ultimately securing a win in their first leather ball match.

The Takeaway

The event at the MC Ground highlighted that whether on a smartphone or a cricket field, the youth of Kangra possess the determination to succeed. By trading their cameras for cricket bats, the Kangra Boys demonstrated that with enough passion, one can excel in any chosen 'field.'
