A new political controversy has emerged as Kangana Ranaut, the BJP MP and Bollywood star from Mandi, criticized participants of the recent student-led protests, labeling a segment of Generation Z as “Generation Gutter” and calling the protest videos “puke inducing.”

Her comments, shared via a series of Instagram posts after the conclusion of the 36-day protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), student groups, and civil society organizations, have sparked intense reactions across various political factions. The protests wrapped up on July 25 after the government agreed to several significant demands, including the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In her posts, Ranaut criticized the protesters' language, appearance, and behavior, asserting that the videos showcased “filth, garbage, and ugliness.” She emphasized that India is founded on cultural values and grace, claiming that the actions of some protesters contradicted these traditions.

Specifically addressing female protesters, she argued that genuine independence necessitates accountability and responsibility, accusing some of glorifying “irresponsible lifestyles” while depending on family support. This led her to label them as “Generation Gutter.”

Ranaut defended those who challenged the protesters online by referencing Newton’s Third Law of Motion, stating: “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”

Her remarks quickly gained traction online, attracting criticism from Congress leaders Renuka Chowdhury and Imran Pratapgarhi, who deemed her comments inappropriate for a Member of Parliament and pledged that the youth of India would respond in a democratic manner.

Social media reactions were mixed; while many condemned her derogatory language and highlighted her history of controversial statements, others defended her right to express her views and supported her critique of the protest movement.
