New Delhi, Oct 8: Actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to safeguard her personality and publicity rights. This action comes in response to the alleged unauthorized exploitation of her identity, particularly through pornographic and inappropriate content circulating on various digital platforms.
A single-judge bench led by Justice Vikas Mahajan has issued summons in the case and has also acknowledged the interim injunction request made by Ranaut.
During the court proceedings, Ranaut's legal representative expressed her distress over the pornographic and obscene material targeting her on social media.
The High Court has instructed Ranaut's counsel to identify the defendants for whom a takedown order is being requested, suggesting that a suitable ruling on the interim injunction could follow once the necessary details are provided.
Additionally, the court has asked the actress' legal team to submit an updated list of parties involved after certain defendants were excluded from the case.
The hearing is now scheduled for February 3, 2027.
This legal move occurs amid a rising trend of disputes regarding personality rights in the Delhi High Court, particularly those involving allegations of AI-generated impersonation, deepfakes, and unauthorized commercial use of public figures' identities.
In recent times, several notable personalities, including former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, ex-India captain Sunil Gavaskar, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and various actors and public figures, have sought or obtained court protection against the unauthorized use of their likeness or AI-generated replicas.
Recently, the Delhi High Court issued an interim order for the removal of certain objectionable online content related to Bollywood actress Tabu, as part of her legal efforts to protect her personality and publicity rights against unauthorized digital exploitation.
