The family of shooter Kamaljeet was filled with joy after he secured a gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Games 2026 on Friday. His parents and uncle expressed that this achievement has brought immense pride to their village, Haryana, and the entire nation.

Kamaljeet, alongside his partner Suruchi Singh, triumphed in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, marking India's second gold medal in the competition. The duo achieved a remarkable score of 484.6 points, surpassing South Korea, which took home the silver with 478.0 points. Iran finished third with 415.8 points, while Indonesia was eliminated with a score of 349.4 points. Additionally, the Indian pair set a new Asian record, breaking the previous mark of 481.3 set by Uzbekistan earlier this year during the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi.

Family's Pride and Joy

In Kamaljeet's hometown of Rewari, his father Ratiram expressed his overwhelming happiness, reflecting on his son's dedication and journey since 2019. "Words cannot capture my joy. The entire village is celebrating. He has consistently performed well and has not returned without a medal since 2019," he shared.

Kamaljeet's mother, Rajbala, also conveyed her pride, stating, "Seeing my son with a medal fills me with happiness. He has made our country, village, and family proud. Today, I am incredibly proud and happy."

His uncle, Dinesh Kumar, emphasized the pride felt by the entire nation and encouraged parents to motivate their children to engage in sports. "We are thrilled, and our country, state, and village share this pride. We hope more children are inspired to pursue sports so that our nation continues to win medals," he remarked.

The Coach's Influence

The family acknowledged the significant role of Kamaljeet's coach, Shakti Pal, in his success. They noted that Kamaljeet trained at Shakti Pal's shooting range in their village and also received guidance from Rakesh, a coach from Rajgarh.

"There is a shooting academy named after the 10th Shooting Academy. Our friend Shakti Pal is a coach there, and Kamaljeet practiced at his range. He also trained under Rakesh in Rajgarh. Shakti Pal treated Kamaljeet like his own child and helped him reach this level. We are all very happy, and the village shares in this joy," Kamaljeet's uncle added.
