On Monday, Justin Greaves from the West Indies made a remarkable mark in Test cricket by becoming the first bowler to achieve five consecutive wicket maidens since detailed records began. This milestone occurred during a pivotal spell on the third day of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship match against Pakistan in Trinidad, where he dismantled the opposition's batting order, as reported by the ICC.

Greaves Surpasses Previous Record

This performance also marked Greaves' first five-wicket haul in Test matches. He broke the previous record of four successive wicket maidens, which was held by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad against South Africa in January 2016.

'Kept it Simple': Insights from Greaves

Greaves shared that he maintained a straightforward approach during his spell, adhering to the guidance of West Indies captain Roston Chase to bowl accurately and trust the process. He stated, "When I came on, captain Roston Chase just said 'continue to be disciplined in what you are doing' and to see if I can get some wickets for the team."

He added, "The ball nipped around and I got some reward. Anytime I get the ball in hand, the team looks to me to be that solid player for them and try to dig us out of situations. To get five wickets for the first time in Test cricket, I'm really happy, but there's still a lot of work to do in the game."

Greaves Sparks Pakistan's Collapse

Initially, Pakistan seemed poised to establish a significant first-innings lead at 244/3, with Shan Masood having scored a century. However, Greaves dismissed Masood, igniting a swift collapse in the batting lineup. He then took out Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, and Mohammad Rizwan in consecutive overs without conceding a single run, leaving Pakistan at 267/8 at lunch, in response to the West Indies' first-innings total of 311.
