Justice for Zubeen Garg: Fast-Track Court Proposed for Swift Resolution
Justice Delivery in Zubeen Garg Case
TEZPUR, March 2: Amid ongoing concerns regarding the pursuit of justice for music legend Zubeen Garg, former judge of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma, suggested on Sunday that a fast-track court could expedite the judicial process in this matter.
While addressing the media during an event in Tezpur, he urged caution against making premature judgments, emphasizing that the legal proceedings are still in progress.
“It is too early to speculate on the verdict, as the defense's arguments need to be considered,” he remarked.
Justice Sarma made these comments after participating in the 54th anniversary celebrations of Tezpur Law College, where he served as the chief guest. He also encouraged students to refrain from politicizing the situation surrounding Zubeen Garg’s passing, highlighting the importance of allowing the legal system to function without outside influence.
On Thursday, the Assam Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of a specialized fast-track court to ensure daily hearings in the case concerning the beloved singer's death.
This decision follows increasing public interest and the family's call for a prompt trial.
Justice Sarma stated that the state government will formally petition the Gauhati High Court to set up a dedicated sessions court under Section 346(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for continuous hearings in this case.
