Justice Alpesh Kogje Takes Oath as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court

Bhopal, September 10: On Thursday, Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje officially took the oath of office as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, filling the vacancy that had existed for nearly three months.
The oath was administered by Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel during a ceremony at Lok Bhavan, attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal, and other high-ranking officials.
Justice Kogje is now the 30th individual to hold the position of Chief Justice in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Prior to his appointment, Justice Vivek Rusia had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice.
His appointment was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 31, while the Centre approved it on September 5 after receiving the President's consent.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his congratulations to Justice Kogje, stating his "heartfelt congratulations and best wishes" as he takes on this significant role.
"During a formal ceremony at Lok Bhawan today, Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office to Justice Alpesh Yashwant Kogje as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court," Chief Minister Yadav shared on X.
He further noted, 'I was present at the ceremony and conveyed my sincere congratulations and best wishes to Chief Justice Kogje on this new responsibility.' Justice Kogje is set to officially begin his duties at the High Court starting Friday.
A celebratory lunch in his honor has been arranged at the Chief Minister's residence, with several lawyers from Gujarat also present at the swearing-in event.
Justice Kogje began his judicial career as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in April 2016 and became a permanent judge in March 2018. He earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1993.
Additionally, he served as an Additional Public Prosecutor from 2002 to 2007 and held the position of Standing Counsel for the Central Excise and Customs Department.
