Squash: Joshna and Velavan Reach Quarterfinals

The duo of Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar advanced to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles squash event at the Asian Games, defeating fellow Indians Suraj Chand and Shameena Riaz on Thursday. The experienced pair secured a 2-0 victory, with scores of 11-7 and 11-10, according to ESPN. The first game was relatively straightforward for Joshna and Velavan, who won 11-7. The second game was more competitive, as Suraj and Shameena rallied from a 7-9 deficit to tie at 9-9, but ultimately, the seasoned players' experience prevailed.


Wushu: Roshibina Devi Achieves Historic Silver

Indian wushu athlete Roshibina Devi earned her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games, falling to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's sanda 60 kg final. Roshibina, who also secured a silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, lost both rounds with a score of 0-5, resulting in a 2-0 defeat, as reported by ESPN. With a bronze from the 2018 Asian Games already in her collection, Roshibina becomes the first Indian woman to achieve three consecutive medals in Wushu at the Asian Games. Her impressive journey included a victory over 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam. In the semi-finals, she defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 to reach the final. This marks India's 14th medal at the ongoing Games, which includes one gold, six silvers, and seven bronzes.


Rowing: Bronze for Satnam and Salman; Balraj Falls Short

In rowing, the team of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan clinched a bronze medal in the men's double sculls final on Thursday, finishing with a time of 6:13.25. They were 3.48 seconds behind the gold medalists Yi Xudi and Nie Yide from China and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medalists Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin, as per ESPN. The pair held second place at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but lost momentum towards the end, trailing the Chinese team by just half a second at one point. Meanwhile, Balraj Panwar narrowly missed out on a medal in the men's singles sculls, finishing fourth. He had been in second place at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but was overtaken by Uzbekistan's Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan's Tatsuya Sakurama in the final stretch. Balraj clocked in at 6:54.80, finishing 15 seconds behind gold medalist Zhiwei Deng of China.
