Jorhat Student Honored with Prime Minister’s National Child Award for Innovative Agricultural Solutions

Aishi Prisha Borah, a student from Jorhat Central School, has been awarded the Prime Minister’s National Child Award for her innovative work in sustainable agriculture. Her unique mulching technique, which utilizes biodegradable materials, aims to enhance soil health and reduce chemical fertilizer use. The award ceremony, attended by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked a significant milestone in her journey. Aishi's achievements reflect her dedication to science and her desire to contribute positively to her community and country. Her father, Ujjal Bora, expressed immense pride in her accomplishments, highlighting her journey from participating in an ISRO competition to receiving national recognition.
 

Celebrating a Young Innovator


Jorhat, Dec 28: A remarkable student from Jorhat Central School has made Assam proud by receiving the esteemed Prime Minister’s National Child Award for her exceptional contributions to Science and Technology.


The award was bestowed by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, with the official ceremony taking place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.


Aishi Prisha Borah earned this national recognition for her innovative and eco-friendly agricultural solutions.


Her work emphasizes natural farming techniques, particularly a novel mulching method that incorporates biodegradable materials like hay and recycled newspapers.


These innovations are designed to enhance soil health, minimize reliance on chemical fertilizers, and offer affordable pest control options for farmers while being environmentally friendly.


In her own words, Aishi shared with a local media outlet that she was thrilled to learn about her award through an official email.


“I felt immense joy and excitement upon receiving the news. We traveled from Jorhat to Delhi on December 24, and on December 26, I was honored to receive the award from the President. Interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was an extraordinary experience,” she expressed.


Describing her project, Aishi stated, “My initiative utilizes newspapers and hay to establish an eco-friendly mulching system that aids in pest management and boosts agricultural productivity. As it is not plastic-based, it preserves soil integrity. I aspire for my work to assist farmers and significantly contribute to sustainable agriculture.”


She attributed her success to the unwavering support and encouragement from her teachers, peers, and family.


“This achievement is a result of the motivation provided by my teachers and family. I aim to continue my scientific endeavors for the benefit of my village, district, and country, contributing to a developed India,” she added.


Aishi’s father, Ujjal Bora, expressed immense pride in his daughter’s accomplishments.


“What my daughter has achieved surpasses anything I could have envisioned. Meeting the President and the Prime Minister due to her efforts is indescribable. Witnessing their interaction and encouragement was a moment we will never forget,” he remarked.


Reflecting on her journey, Bora noted that Aishi’s fascination with science sparked during the COVID-19 lockdown when she participated in an ISRO competition.


“Although she didn’t win then, that experience ignited her passion. Since 2022, she has been selected for various national science platforms, including the National Children’s Science Congress in Ahmedabad, followed by presentations in Odisha and New Delhi,” he shared.


Aishi has an impressive array of accolades, including the Dinanath Pandey Smart Idea Invention Award in 2025 for her projects, which include a machine that converts used paper into pencils and a system for reusing greywater.


Additionally, she secured a Silver Medal at the North-East Innovation Festival held at the National Science Centre, Khanapara, in Guwahati.
