Job Scam in Odisha: 500 Victims Misled by Fake Consultancy

A shocking job scam in Odisha has led to the arrest of Subrat Kumar Palo, who allegedly deceived around 500 individuals by promising them jobs in Singapore. The accused operated a fake consultancy, collecting significant sums from victims. Authorities have uncovered multiple cases linked to Palo, raising concerns about the extent of the fraud. Arrest Made in Job Fraud Case


In a significant development, a 45-year-old individual was apprehended in the Ganjam district of Odisha for allegedly defrauding approximately 500 job seekers under the guise of securing employment in Singapore, as reported by local authorities on Thursday.


The suspect, Subrat Kumar Palo, a resident of Hillpatna, was taken into custody on Wednesday following a formal complaint filed at the Berhampur Sadar police station.


Law enforcement officials confiscated two mobile devices, photocopies of airline tickets, fabricated work permits for Singapore, health check-up certificates from a diagnostic center in Chennai, and counterfeit appointment letters from a shipping firm.


Investigations revealed that Palo, in collaboration with an accomplice, established a job consultancy and training center in Bhabinipur. They promoted their services through various advertising mediums, enticing job seekers with promises of lucrative positions in Singapore and conducting interviews.


The accused reportedly swindled around 500 individuals, extracting Rs 30,000 from each victim, according to police statements.


Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M disclosed that Palo is also linked to three additional fraud cases, including one filed at the Vizianagaram rural police station in Andhra Pradesh on March 6, 2024.


The other two cases were recorded at the Berhampur town police station in August 2009 and at the Tikabali police station in Kandhamal in July 2017.
