The Jharkhand High Court issued a directive on Friday, mandating the state government to rigorously adhere to the food safety regulations established by the central government and to prohibit the sale of meat in open markets.

This ruling came during a hearing of a public interest litigation filed by Shyamanand Pandey, where the petitioner highlighted the issue of goats and chickens being slaughtered in public spaces, with their carcasses displayed in shops, visible to passersby.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Talok Singh Chouhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar, expressed its discontent regarding the sale of meat in open areas and instructed the state government along with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation to take immediate action on this matter. The court also emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the food safety regulations set forth by the central authorities.
