JD(U) Dismisses Lalu Prasad's Security Claims Amid Political Tensions
Political Tensions Rise Over Security Decisions
The Janata Dal (United) has rejected the allegations made by RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who claimed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was behind the Bihar government's decision to reduce security for him and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. Minister Ashok Chaudhary sharply responded to Lalu's statements, asserting that during Nitish Kumar's tenure, Rabri Devi was provided security at her residence. He criticized Lalu for continuing to engage in pressure politics, even after the government arranged a separate and appropriate residence for them.
Chaudhary refuted claims of political interference in security and housing decisions, stating that such matters are handled independently by the security committee and the police department. On Wednesday, Lalu accused his political rival, Nitish Kumar, of being responsible for the government's decision to reduce his security. Recently, the NDA government downgraded Lalu and Rabri Devi's 'Z-plus' security and instructed them to vacate their official residence at 10 Circular Road.
Another minister, Madan Sahni, noted that Lalu had occupied that residence for nearly 20 years without any requests to vacate. He emphasized that with the change in government, the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the building construction department and the security committee. He advised Lalu not to implicate Nitish in this issue. Bihar police also clarified that both Lalu and Rabri Devi are receiving adequate security as per established protocols. In a post on X, the police confirmed that security arrangements for the two leaders are being maintained according to the prescribed regulations.
Under the Special Security Group (SSG) Act of 2010, Lalu is provided with a bodyguard, guards at his residence, escort guards, a pilot vehicle, and a ballistic-resistant vehicle. Additionally, plainclothes officers from the special branch have been deployed for extra surveillance.
