Jasprit Bumrah Makes T20 World Cup History with Record Performance
Bumrah's Historic Achievement
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has etched his name in T20 World Cup history by becoming the first pacer to achieve a four-wicket haul in knockout matches. He surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the leading wicket-taker among pacers in the tournament's history. Playing at his home ground in Ahmedabad, Bumrah's exceptional performance, alongside Axar Patel's three wickets, ensured that New Zealand had no chance during their daunting chase of 256 runs, ultimately losing by 96 runs.
India's Triumph in T20 World Cup
With this victory, Team India has clinched their second consecutive T20 World Cup title and their third overall. They are the first team to win the championship while hosting and successfully defend it. Bumrah played a pivotal role in this success, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament alongside Varun Chakravarthy, with 14 wickets at an impressive average of 12.42 and an economy rate of 6.21. His four-wicket haul in the knockout stage places him among the elite, joining spinners Ajantha Mendis and Shadab Khan as the only bowlers to achieve this feat.
Bumrah's Record in T20 World Cup
Currently, Bumrah ranks as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history, boasting 40 wickets from 26 matches with an average of 13.65 and an economy rate of 5.66. He has surpassed Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, who has 38 wickets in 31 matches. Although Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan leads with 50 wickets, Bumrah's accolades, including two tournament wins and a 'Player of the Tournament' title in 2024, solidify his status as one of the best bowlers in T20 World Cup history.
