In August 2019, the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, abrogated Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and divided the former state into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Reflections on the Seventh Anniversary of the Decision

Marking the seventh anniversary of this decision, Abdullah shared lines from American poet Robert Frost's poem 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' in a post on X. He expressed that seven years have passed, and neither he nor his party has forgotten or compromised, nor do they accept the current situation. He emphasized their commitment to reversing the actions taken against Jammu and Kashmir that have stripped away their rights and endangered their identity, quoting, 'The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.'

Former Chief Minister's Appeal to the Central Government

Earlier on Tuesday, former Chief Minister and JKNC president Farooq Abdullah urged the central government to fulfill its promises made to the local populace and the nation regarding the region. He stressed that the government must honor its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram also labeled the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's status and its reorganization as a constitutional injustice. He questioned the government's timeline for restoring the state's status, stating on X that the story does not end here.

Legal Questions Surrounding the Revocation

Chidambaram highlighted that a significant legal question remains unresolved within the judiciary. He noted that on this day, seven years ago, a constitutional injustice was committed by dividing Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
