Umar Abdullah's Strong Condemnation

On Wednesday, Umar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, sharply criticized Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding a viral video. In the footage, Kumar appears to be attempting to remove a woman's hijab. Abdullah remarked that Kumar was once regarded as a secular leader, but his true nature is now being revealed. He labeled the incident as "unfortunate" and stated that such actions are unacceptable. Abdullah referenced a similar occurrence during past elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Abdullah told reporters that during elections, Mehbooba Mufti had also removed a woman's burqa at a polling station, which he deemed unfortunate. The recent video, which surfaced from a government event in Patna, has drawn severe criticism from opposition parties. In the clip, Kumar is seen pulling down a woman's hijab while handing her a certificate, exposing her face and chin before she could say anything.

National Backlash and Reactions

The incident has ignited widespread anger across the nation. The event took place during a ceremony at the Chief Minister's office, where appointment letters were being distributed to newly recruited AYUSH doctors. PDP leader Iltija Mufti condemned the video, calling the incident disgraceful and questioning Kumar's mental state. She described Kumar as elderly and highlighted his insensitivity towards Muslim women, stating, "It is shameful. Do you not understand the implications of exposing a Muslim woman in such a manner?"

Political Leaders Respond

The incident has drawn condemnation from various political factions. Samajwadi Party MP Ikra Hasan expressed concern for the Chief Minister's health, labeling the act regrettable. She noted that it is troubling for someone in such a high position to behave in this manner, as it could have dangerous repercussions. Another Samajwadi Party MP, Dimple Yadav, echoed similar sentiments, asserting that such conduct is unbecoming of a person in the Chief Minister's role.
