Jammu and Kashmir CM Accuses BJP of Attempting to Undermine Government
Allegations Against BJP
On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah leveled serious accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He claimed that the BJP is attempting to destabilize his government by creating divisions within the ruling National Conference. Abdullah asserted that his party's legislators have been offered bribes ranging from 20 to 30 crores to switch allegiances.
Addressing Party Workers
While addressing a gathering of party workers in Hazratbal, Srinagar, on the 26th death anniversary of his grandmother Begum Akbar Juhra, the Chief Minister stated that the BJP is resorting to financial inducements to lure his party's legislators. He alleged that when monetary incentives and ministerial positions failed to entice them, the BJP resorted to covertly urging legislators to join them, promising statehood in return.
Specific Incident Highlighted
Abdullah recounted a particular incident where a National Conference legislator from the Jammu region informed him about an approach made by a BJP official and a Supreme Court lawyer. They allegedly sought his support in exchange for promises of 20 to 30 crores, a ministerial position, and statehood.
Confidence in Party Members
Expressing confidence in his party members and legislators, Omar Abdullah stated that no National Conference legislator would sell their integrity. He emphasized that there isn't a single legislator willing to compromise their honesty for 20 or even 100 crores, as they are aware of their accountability to Allah. He warned the BJP against attempting to seize power through backdoor tactics.
Farooq Abdullah's Remarks
Following the conference, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah also addressed the workers, acknowledging the attempts to fracture the party and noting that such efforts have occurred in the past. He urged party members not to be disheartened by these challenges.
