Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Urges India to Leverage Ties with Russia for Peace in Ukraine

As Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for his visit to India, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to utilize India's strong ties with Russia to facilitate peace in Ukraine. Abdullah highlighted the importance of India's role in addressing global tensions and emphasized that the friendship with Russia could be pivotal in promoting dialogue over conflict. With discussions on defense and trade on the agenda during Putin's visit, the international community is keenly observing whether India will deliver a significant message regarding the Ukraine crisis.
 

Call for Peace Amidst Global Tensions

Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to actively use India's close ties with Russia to help resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Abdullah emphasized that in the face of rising global tensions and warfare, India has the potential to play a balanced and influential role.




In a conversation with reporters, Chief Minister Abdullah remarked, “It is true that Russia has been a reliable friend to India, and our strategic relationship has been robust for decades. However, if this friendship can also contribute to peace in Ukraine, the world will hold India’s role in higher regard.” He also noted that Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly stated that ‘dialogue, not war, is the solution.’ Additionally, Omar shared his views on the ongoing SIR process in several states of the country.




During President Putin's visit, discussions between India and Russia will cover various topics, including defense, energy cooperation, and trade. Nevertheless, political analysts believe that the international community will be closely watching whether India can convey a concrete message regarding the Ukraine crisis during talks with Putin.
