Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Discusses Evacuation of Students from Iran
Evacuation Plans for Students in Iran
On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that students from the Union Territory studying in Iran are being transported to Armenia, from where they will be brought back to India.
Abdullah mentioned that he is in constant communication with the Ministry of External Affairs. He spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who assured him that the evacuation would prioritize students from the most dangerous areas, particularly Tehran and Isfahan.
Initially, the plan was to relocate the students to the relatively safer region of Qom. However, due to the closure of airports and ports in Iran, the students are now being taken via land routes to Armenia, from where they will return to India.
