Jaipur Municipal Corporation Introduces Major Changes for Birth and Death Certificates
Significant Reform in Certificate Issuance
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has implemented a groundbreaking change to alleviate a major inconvenience for residents regarding the issuance of birth and death certificates. Starting now, individuals will no longer need to visit the municipal headquarters on Tonk Road for most birth and death cases occurring in government hospitals within the municipal area. This new service is now available at all 13 zonal offices of the corporation.
Previously, families had to travel to the municipal headquarters to obtain certificates following a birth or death at Jaipur's government hospitals, often covering distances of 10 to 15 kilometers or more. This requirement posed significant challenges for parents of newborns and grieving families. In response to these difficulties, the municipal corporation has opted for a decentralization approach.
Commissioner Dr. Gaurav Saini stated that this service has been launched simultaneously across all 13 zonal offices. From now on, only select cases from major government hospitals will be processed at the headquarters. He emphasized that this decision was made with public convenience in mind, aiming to save time, money, and effort for the citizens.
Dr. Saini further explained that many community health centers (CHCs) and government hospitals in Jaipur are located far from the municipal headquarters, necessitating long trips for even minor tasks. The issuance of certificates at the relevant zonal offices will significantly reduce this issue. He also clarified that the marriage registration certificate process will remain unchanged, available at both zonal offices and the headquarters.
Previously, zonal offices only issued certificates for births and deaths occurring in private hospitals. Under the new system, certificates for cases from both private hospitals and government hospitals or CHCs within the zonal area will now be issued at the respective zonal offices. This expansion of services at the zonal level will directly benefit the public.
Several major government hospitals and CHCs have been added under the jurisdiction of different zonal offices. For instance, the Amer CHC, P.D. Upadhyay Hospital in Gangaouri Bazaar, and the National Institute of Ayurveda in Brahmpuri are included in the Hawa Mahal-Amer zone. In the Malviya Nagar zone, the Women's Hospital at Sanganeeri Gate, Rukmani Devi Jaipur Hospital, and Santokba Durlabhji Hospital are now part of the service. Similarly, cases from government hospitals and CHCs in Civil Lines, Sanganer, Vidyadhar Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Jhotwara, and Jagatpura zones will also be handled locally.
According to Vikram Singh, the registrar for birth and death certificates at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, only six major government hospitals will continue to issue certificates at the headquarters. These include Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS), SMS Super Specialty Block (SSB), State Cancer Hospital in Pratap Nagar, JK Lawn Hospital, RUHS Hospital, and the mental health facility located in Adarsh Nagar.
Overall, this initiative by the municipal corporation brings significant relief to the citizens of Jaipur. The process for obtaining certificates has become simpler, faster, and more localized, reducing both the distance and the associated hassles.
