Jaipur High Court Lawyers End Protest After Agreement on Seven Demands
Lawyers Conclude Ten-Day Protest Outside Jaipur High Court
In Jaipur, the lawyers' protest that lasted for ten days outside the Rajasthan High Court has come to an end, following an agreement on seven key demands. The protest was initiated in response to the lack of action against a doctor accused of negligence leading to the death of a lawyer's mother. The demonstration began on February 16, 2026, and concluded on the evening of February 25, 2026. During the protest, lawyers blocked a major road, causing significant traffic congestion in the city. After negotiations with the police, they decided to end the protest, clear the road, and celebrated by burning an effigy of the accused doctor.
The agreement was reached in the presence of Rajeev Sogarwal, President of the High Court Bar Association, Jaipur, and DCP South, Rajarshi Raj. The settlement included consensus on seven major demands, which are as follows:
- Regarding allegations of irregularities in the RGHS (Rajasthan Government Health Scheme), a letter will be sent to the medical department to complete the investigation related to Nivik Hospital within 20 days. If the investigation confirms wrongdoing, the department will file an FIR.
- Concerning the FIR registered at the Mansarovar police station for negligence in treatment, a request will be made to the medical college to form a medical board based on the complainant's wishes.
- Until the investigation and actions are completed, a letter will be sent to the relevant department to temporarily remove the hospital from the RGHS panel.
- A factual report will be presented in the pending petition at the High Court.
- To ensure a fair investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed under the chairmanship of DCP South, which will complete its investigation within one month.
- The complainant will be regularly updated on the progress of the investigation.
- The complainant will be involved in every investigation, and a progress report will be submitted to the Bar Association every seven days.
- All documents and CCTV footage will be examined by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) within one month.
This protest was linked to the alleged negligence in the treatment of advocate Jeetendra Sharma's mother, where Dr. Sondev Bansal from Nivik Hospital (Mansarovar) was accused. An FIR was filed in September 2025, but the lack of arrests led to the lawyers' outrage. The protest significantly affected traffic in and around the High Court premises.
