ISRO Successfully Launches EOS-05 Satellite with GSLV-F17 Rocket

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched its advanced Earth observation satellite, EOS-05, aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota. This mission marks a significant enhancement in India's space monitoring capabilities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the achievement, highlighting the growing collaboration between ISRO and Indian industries. The EOS-05 satellite is designed to provide advanced imaging from geosynchronous orbit, improving monitoring of the Indian subcontinent and supporting various applications, including disaster management and environmental assessments. This launch is a pivotal step in India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle program.

Chennai, Sept 4: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a significant milestone on Friday with the successful launch of its advanced Earth observation satellite, EOS-05, using the GSLV-F17 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre located in Sriharikota. This launch enhances India's capabilities in space-based monitoring.


The GSLV-F17, measuring 51.7 meters, took off from the second launch pad at 2:55 AM after a countdown of 27.5 hours.


This three-stage launch vehicle performed flawlessly, placing EOS-05 into its intended Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. The satellite, weighing approximately 2,367 kg, will now undergo several orbit-raising maneuvers before reaching its operational orbit.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO, calling the mission “another outstanding achievement” and a moment of pride for the nation.


In a social media post, he stated, “The successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, India’s first imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit, showcases the excellence, innovation, and growing capabilities of India’s space sector.”


Modi emphasized that the collaboration between ISRO and Indian industries is bolstering the nation’s space program and enhancing its capabilities within the space ecosystem.


EOS-05 is designed to deliver advanced Earth imaging from geosynchronous orbit, allowing it to capture large geographical areas repeatedly, operating at a significantly higher altitude than traditional low-Earth-orbit satellites.


This satellite is anticipated to improve India’s monitoring capabilities over the Indian subcontinent and surrounding regions, providing valuable data for various civilian and strategic uses.


Its imaging capabilities will aid in disaster management, agricultural monitoring, environmental assessments, natural resource management, and tracking weather-related events. The satellite's frequent imaging from its operational orbit is expected to enhance information availability during rapidly evolving natural disasters and emergencies.


This mission represents a crucial advancement for India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle program, with GSLV-F17 being the 19th flight of this series, utilizing India’s own cryogenic upper stage technology.
