Israel's Military Readiness Heightens Amid US-Iran Tensions
Israel's Defence Minister Issues Warning
On Thursday, Israel's Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced that the Israeli military is poised to intensify its operations against Iran if required. This statement comes in light of escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about a potential broader conflict in the region. During a military graduation event, Katz emphasized that the Israeli forces are prepared to initiate another offensive against Iran. He stated, "The army is on alert for renewed combat to regain air dominance and strike again... in Iran, to neutralize threats, even for a third time if necessary." He added, "If we need to return, we will do so with even greater force." These comments follow recent clashes between Washington and Tehran, occurring weeks after a ceasefire in April and a subsequent agreement aimed at de-escalating tensions.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also remarked that Iran has been considerably weakened due to Israel's prior military actions, although he cautioned that the conflict is far from over. He stated, "The Iranian axis is weaker than ever, while Israel stands stronger than ever." Netanyahu highlighted the capability of the Israeli Air Force, asserting, "We have demonstrated that our reach extends from Yemen to Iran. However, we must recognize that the campaign is ongoing." He further mentioned that Israel is committed to a strategy of "armaments independence," revealing plans to boost the defence budget by 350 billion shekels (approximately $115 billion) over the next ten years. "We will develop a robust domestic armaments industry, producing our own munitions, thereby reducing our reliance on foreign procurement," he explained. Katz reiterated this sentiment, stating that the military remains "on alert and ready to renew the campaign, to reestablish aerial superiority, and to execute a blue-white (Israeli) strike in Iran to eliminate threats." Reports indicate that the current conflict commenced on February 28, when the United States and Israel initiated an air campaign against Iran, resulting in the deaths of the country's Supreme Leader and other high-ranking officials. The latest statements arise as the US and Iran continue to exchange strikes, raising fears that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict may have faltered.
