Ishan Kishan's Stellar Performance

Jharkhand's captain, Ishan Kishan, celebrated his return to the national team in style by scoring a remarkable century during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on December 24.

On December 23, Kishan was named as the second wicketkeeper-batter in the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka in February and March 2026, marking his return to the Indian team after two years.

His selection was bolstered by an outstanding performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he led Jharkhand to its first title, scoring 517 runs, including two centuries and two fifties, with an impressive average of 57.44 across 10 matches. Notably, he scored a century in the final, contributing 101 runs off 49 balls, helping Jharkhand secure a 69-run victory over Haryana.

Record-Breaking Century in VHT

Following his selection for the T20 World Cup, Kishan wasted no time in making an impact, smashing a stunning 33-ball century against Karnataka. Coming in to bat at No. 6 with Bihar at 239/4 after Kumar Kushagara's dismissal, he quickly found his rhythm and began dominating the Karnataka bowlers.

Kishan reached his half-century in just 20 balls, leaving the Karnataka bowlers in disarray as he unleashed a barrage of boundaries and sixes. He completed his century in a mere 33 balls, needing only 13 more deliveries to score his second fifty. His performance was undoubtedly fueled by his recent recall to the national team.

Historic Achievement

Ishan Kishan's 33-ball century is now the second-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket, just behind Sakibul Gani's 32-ball record. During his innings, he formed a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Virat Singh (88) and a 93-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ankul Roy (13). In total, Kishan scored 107 runs across these partnerships, contributing an impressive 74.83% of the runs added.

Kishan's explosive innings included 125 runs off just 39 balls, featuring 7 fours and 14 sixes, leading Jharkhand to a formidable total of 411/9, setting a daunting target of 421 runs for Karnataka.

Fan Reactions to Kishan's Century

Kishan's record-breaking century has left fans and cricket lovers in awe, with social media buzzing with praise for the Jharkhand captain's explosive performance. Many fans took to their X handles (formerly Twitter) to commend Kishan for justifying his selection for the T20 World Cup with such a remarkable innings.

Fans expressed their excitement, noting that Kishan's performance not only silenced critics but also strengthened his case for an ODI call-up. His timing and execution have sparked discussions about his potential role in the upcoming matches.

Looking Ahead

Ishan Kishan is expected to participate in all group stage matches for Jharkhand in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy before joining the Indian squad for a T20I series against New Zealand starting January 21. This five-match series will serve as India's final preparation for the T20 World Cup.

Kishan has been included as a backup wicketkeeper-batter to Sanju Samson and is anticipated to receive opportunities during the series to solidify his position ahead of the T20 World Cup.
