Concerns Over Voter List Manipulation

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal expressed serious concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being conducted by the Election Commission, claiming it is a tactic to manipulate the electoral rolls. He has called upon the Supreme Court to intervene and halt the ongoing mass deletions.

Sibal, a former Union minister, suggested that the current revision of voter lists in several states is strategically designed to benefit the BJP in upcoming elections.

His comments were prompted by a report indicating that in Godda district, Jharkhand, BJP representatives are allegedly attempting to remove voters, particularly from minority communities, with the assistance of Booth Level Officers, who are state government employees under the JMM-Congress coalition.

In a post on X, Sibal stated, "Politics of exclusion. BJP agents: Target Muslims, seek bulk deletions. Supreme Court needs to stop this!"

He further asserted, "SIR is an exercise: To manipulate the voters list. Help BJP win elections!"

These statements followed criticisms from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former leader Rahul Gandhi, who labeled the Election Commission as the "BJP Kursi Bachao Aayog" and the "Vote Chori Aayog."

Kharge and Gandhi accused the ruling party of conspiring to undermine India's democracy through vote theft, asserting that the public will hold them accountable.

Sibal emphasized that citizens are now aware of the BJP's alleged schemes and are uniting against the manipulation of votes.

With over 2.06 crore voters removed from Maharashtra's draft electoral rolls due to the SIR process, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the BJP and the "Vote Chori Aayog" are constantly altering their strategies to secure victory at any cost.

Gandhi remarked that a government built on "vote chori" disregards the importance of the people, which is why the BJP neither listens to nor respects their demands.
