Is a Major Trade Deal Between the US and India on the Horizon? Trump Weighs In!
Trump Hints at Upcoming Trade Agreement with India
New York/Washington: President Donald Trump has announced that the United States is nearing a trade agreement with India.
During a recent statement, Trump remarked, "We have successfully negotiated deals with the UK and China, and now we are close to finalizing one with India. For other nations, we have sent letters indicating our terms if they wish to engage in trade with us."
These comments were made as the Trump administration dispatched initial letters to several countries outlining the tariffs that will be applied to their products entering the US market.
Countries receiving these letters included Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, and Tunisia.
Trump emphasized, "We are informing various nations about the tariffs they will incur. Many of these countries have been taking advantage of the US, imposing tariffs that are unprecedented, with some reaching as high as 200%, making trade extremely challenging."
He noted that these tariffs are encouraging businesses to relocate to the United States.
In a separate discussion, Trump claimed he played a crucial role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan by warning both nations that the US would not engage in trade if hostilities continued.
"We intervened in conflicts involving India and Pakistan, as well as other regions, and managed to halt significant confrontations, particularly between these two nuclear powers," he stated.
Trump also commented on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, attributing its escalation to the Biden administration, stating, "This situation is tragic and would not have occurred under my presidency."
During a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump received a letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in various international conflicts.
He has frequently reiterated his contributions to reducing tensions between India and Pakistan, asserting that he encouraged both nations to pursue trade instead of conflict.
Following India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, which targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan, intense clashes ensued, culminating in a ceasefire agreement on May 10, which India claims was a result of its strong military response.
