Iran's Stance on Ceasefire with Israel Remains Uncertain
Iran's Response to Ceasefire Announcement
Following Israel's acceptance of a ceasefire, Iranian officials stated they are not ready to halt military actions against Israeli forces, indicating that a final decision regarding their operations will be made later. Israel has confirmed its acceptance of the ceasefire but cautioned that any violations by Iran would lead to a stronger response.
US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!”
Initially, Iran refuted the existence of a ceasefire agreement, asserting that “there is no such agreement.” Reports from a news outlet indicated that Israeli forces successfully intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile.
Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi expressed on X, “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around. Currently, there is NO 'agreement' on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, if the Israeli regime ceases its illegal aggression against the Iranian people by 4 am Tehran time, we will not continue our response thereafter. The final decision regarding our military operations will be determined later.”
He further stated, “The military operations of our powerful Armed Forces to punish Israel for its aggression continued until the very last minute, at 4 am. Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute.”
