Iran's IRGC Seizes Ship in Hormuz Strait Amid Tensions
Iran's Action in Hormuz Strait
Tehran/Washington. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has detained a vessel en route to India in the Hormuz Strait. Iran claims the ship attempted to pass through the strait without permission.
The container ship, named Epaminodes and flagged under Liberia, was heading towards Mundra Port in Gujarat. According to the Iranian navy, the ship's navigation system had been tampered with, posing a threat to maritime security.
During the operation, the IRGC intercepted the vessel and took it into custody, bringing it closer to shore. Additionally, another ship linked to Israel, named Francesca, was also seized. An attack was reported on a ship named Euphoria, with prior reports indicating that one vessel was fired upon by Iran, while another was damaged near the coast of Oman.
Decision Following Appeals from Pakistani Leadership
Trump has stated that the U.S. is extending the ceasefire with Iran at the request of Pakistan. However, he did not specify the duration of this extension.
He mentioned that there is currently a lack of unity in Iran's leadership and government. In this context, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir requested him to pause attacks on Iran to allow time for a joint proposal to be prepared.
In response to this appeal, Trump ordered U.S. forces to halt attacks for the time being, while ensuring that they remain fully prepared. A blockade will continue to maintain pressure on Iran during this period.
He clarified that the ceasefire will remain in effect until Iran presents a solid and unified proposal and negotiations are completed, regardless of the outcome.
Trump's Warning: He cautioned Iran that if a peace deal is not reached, U.S. forces are fully prepared to act and can do so upon receiving orders. He indicated that the ceasefire will not be extended further.
Meeting to Reopen Hormuz: The UK and France have decided to convene a meeting of 30 countries to discuss reopening the Hormuz Strait. This meeting is scheduled to take place in London today. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Pakistan has been postponed following Iran's refusal to send a delegation for talks.
Warning from Houthi Rebels: Houthi rebels in Yemen have warned that the conflict is far from over. They believe the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is fragile, indicating that further conflict is likely.
France's Strong Remarks: President Emmanuel Macron criticized the U.S. blockade of the Hormuz Strait, stating that this decision has led Iranian officials to alter their initial stance.
