Iran's Foreign Minister Visits Pakistan Amid Tensions with the US
Iranian Delegation Arrives in Islamabad
In the midst of ongoing tensions in the Middle East and a strained relationship with the United States, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Saturday morning with a high-level delegation. While the primary focus of this visit is potential discussions with the US, Tehran has made it clear that it will not engage in direct talks with Washington.
Warm Welcome in Pakistan
Upon their arrival in Islamabad, the Iranian delegation received a warm reception. The welcoming committee included Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Ishaq Dar confirmed the meeting on the social media platform 'X', expressing hopes for meaningful dialogue aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.
Prospects for Peace Talks
An official stated, 'Following significant discussions with the Pakistani mediation team, the second round of peace talks between the US and Iran is expected to take place in Islamabad.' He added that a US security team is already present in Islamabad to facilitate the negotiation process.
US Delegation Heads to Pakistan
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt announced on Friday that the US Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, Steve Vitkoff, along with President Donald Trump's advisor Jared Kushner, will depart for Pakistan on Saturday for the second round of talks with Iran. The initial round of discussions held on April 11 and 12 between the US and Iran ended without any results.
