Iran's Drone and Missile Assault on UAE: Key Locations Affected
Overview of the Attacks
On Saturday, the Ministry of Defence of the UAE revealed alarming statistics regarding Iran's military actions against the nation. Since the onset of these attacks, Iranian forces have launched a total of 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones. The UAE's air defense systems successfully intercepted 132 of the missiles, while five fell into the sea. Out of the 209 drones, 195 were neutralized, but 14 managed to penetrate the defenses, landing in various locations across the UAE's territory and waters. The ministry condemned these actions, labeling them as "a cowardly act that jeopardizes civilian safety and disrupts stability."
Locations Targeted by Iranian Forces
Fairmont The Palm Hotel
One of the most notable incidents involved the Fairmont The Palm, a luxury hotel located on Dubai's iconic Palm Jumeirah. Verified footage showed flames erupting from the hotel, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Local authorities reported that four individuals sustained injuries due to the fire, although further details were not disclosed.
Burj Al Arab
The renowned Burj Al Arab, an architectural marvel, also faced repercussions from the attacks. Although the damage was contained, a drone was intercepted nearby, causing debris to ignite a minor fire on the hotel's outer facade. Emergency services responded swiftly, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Videos circulating on social media depicted flames and emergency vehicles at the scene, but officials clarified that the hotel itself was not directly hit.
Dubai International Airport
Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports globally, was also affected. The Dubai Media Office confirmed that a concourse experienced minor damage during an "incident," resulting in injuries to four staff members who received medical assistance. Emergency teams were deployed promptly, and pre-existing contingency plans ensured that most terminals were evacuated before the incident occurred.
Jebel Ali Port
At Jebel Ali Port, a significant fire broke out due to debris from an aerial interception, not a direct attack. The Dubai Civil Defence teams acted quickly to extinguish the flames, and no injuries were reported. Authorities cautioned the public against sharing an outdated video of a previous fire at the port, which was mistakenly circulated as recent footage.
Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi
The most severe casualties were reported at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport, where a drone strike resulted in one fatality and seven injuries. The deceased was identified as an individual of Asian descent. Officials urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to rely on credible sources for updates. The airport confirmed that the incident was linked to Iran's retaliation against the UAE for its perceived support of US-Israeli military actions against Iran.
