Drone Attack on Salalah Port

Muscat: The situation in the Middle East has become increasingly volatile, with an Iranian drone striking Salalah Port in Oman on Tuesday, March 3. The moment of impact was recorded on video, showing the drone igniting as it descended towards the port. Witnesses reported a loud explosion followed by a thick plume of black smoke rising from the facility. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties. This attack comes in the wake of intensified Iranian operations against Gulf nations, particularly after recent airstrikes by the United States and Israel that resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran is now focusing its efforts on energy infrastructure in the region.

Previous Attack on Oil Tanker

Iran's Assault on Oil Tanker: On the previous day, Iran also targeted an oil tanker near Oman's coast. According to a report from Oman's maritime security center, the oil tanker MKD VYOM, registered under the Marshall Islands, was attacked by an unmanned vessel approximately 52 nautical miles from Muscat. The tanker was transporting around 59,463 metric tons of cargo. The attack led to a fire and explosion in the engine room, resulting in the death of one crew member, an Indian national.

Fire at Al-Fujairah Oil Depot

Incident at UAE Oil Depot: Concurrently, a significant fire erupted at the Al-Fujairah oil depot following a drone strike on Tuesday. UAE officials reported that the fire broke out after a drone was intercepted. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported. Additionally, two Iranian drones targeted the US Embassy in Riyadh, with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense confirming the attack. An official spokesperson stated that the embassy was subjected to a drone attack, which caused a limited fire and minor damage to the building.

The coordinated airstrikes by the US and Israel on February 28 targeted various Iranian cities, focusing on military command centers, air-defense systems, missile sites, and critical regime infrastructure. US President Donald Trump characterized these strikes as essential to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.
