Iran Threatens to Block Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Tensions with Israel

Iran has escalated its threats to block the Strait of Hormuz and intensify military actions in response to Israel's aggression in Lebanon. Following the suspension of indirect talks with the US, Iranian officials demand an end to Israeli operations in Gaza and Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israel has retaliated with airstrikes on Beirut after Hezbollah launched rockets into northern Israel. This complex situation continues to evolve, raising concerns about further conflict in the region.

Iran's Escalating Threats in the Middle East

Iran has reiterated its threat to completely obstruct the Strait of Hormuz and to escalate tensions in other regions, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as reported by the Iranian news outlet Tasnim on Monday. This latest development adds to the already intricate situation in the Middle East, following Tehran's announcement that it is halting indirect negotiations with the United States aimed at reaching a peace agreement, citing Israel's increased military actions in Lebanon.

Previously, Iran had ceased all communication with the US in response to Israel's ongoing military operations in Lebanon. Iranian officials have stated that the resolve of Iran's armed forces and their allies will retaliate against what they term 'Zionist crimes' and will open new fronts in response. Tasnim reported that the Iranian negotiation team has decided to stop all dialogues and exchanges through intermediaries, particularly due to the ongoing violence in Lebanon, which was a key factor in the ceasefire agreement.

Iranian officials have stressed the urgent need for Israel to cease its aggressive operations in Gaza and Lebanon, demanding a complete withdrawal from the territories occupied by Israel in Lebanon. They have made it clear that no negotiations will occur until their conditions are met. Furthermore, reports indicate that Iran and its allies are prepared to fully block the Strait of Hormuz and activate other fronts, including the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, as a form of retaliation against Israel and its supporters.

Israel Responds with Strikes on Beirut

Israel Orders Strikes on Beirut’s Southern Suburbs as Hezbollah Rockets Hit Northern Israel

In light of the escalating situation in the Gulf and Middle East, Israel has ordered airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. This decision comes a day after Israeli ground forces advanced deeper into Lebanon than they have in 26 years, coinciding with Hezbollah launching rockets at northern Israel, including areas near Haifa.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement indicating that the strikes on Beirut were a response to what they described as repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah and attacks on Israeli cities and citizens. Although Hezbollah had agreed to cease hostilities when the ceasefire was established in mid-April, they resumed their attacks following Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, which Israel claims were acts of self-defense.

Following the warning from Israel, many residents were seen evacuating the area known as Dahiyeh, causing significant traffic congestion as they fled the suburb, which is known for its strong support of Hezbollah.
