Iran Explores Unconventional Military Strategies Amid US Blockade

Iran is reportedly exploring unconventional military strategies, including the deployment of dolphins equipped with explosives, to target US warships in the Strait of Hormuz. This comes in response to a stringent US blockade affecting its economy. Analysts suggest that the blockade is increasingly viewed as a form of warfare by Iranian officials. Meanwhile, the US has ramped up military support for Israel, sending significant munitions and equipment, signaling potential escalation in the region. The situation remains tense as both nations navigate these complex military dynamics.

Iran's Military Considerations

Iran is reportedly contemplating unconventional military tactics, including deploying dolphins equipped with explosives, to target American naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. This consideration arises amid a stringent US blockade that has severely affected Iran's economy. A report from a prominent news outlet indicates that hardline elements within Iran perceive the US's actions to obstruct its oil exports as tantamount to an act of war, despite a fragile ceasefire currently in place. Officials mentioned in the report indicated that Tehran might resort to previously unutilized strategies, such as using mine-laden dolphins and submarines, to heighten tensions in the area.

The report further highlighted that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has threatened to disrupt vital communication networks, including undersea cables traversing the strait, which could have a profound effect on global internet connectivity. Analysts suggest that the blockade is increasingly regarded in Tehran not as an alternative to warfare but as a different form of conflict. Hamidreza Azizi, a Middle East analyst at a Berlin think tank, warned that Iranian leaders might start to see renewed hostilities as less burdensome than enduring ongoing economic strain.

Potential Escalation in US-Iran Relations

Iran War 2.0?

According to a report, former President Trump received a briefing from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) regarding new military options against Iran. Two US officials revealed that the briefing, lasting 45 minutes, was conducted by CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper alongside the Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. These developments coincide with reports that the US has sent nearly 6,500 tonnes of munitions and military supplies to Israel within a single day, indicating a potential escalation in the region.

As per Israel’s Defence Ministry, the shipment arrived via two cargo vessels and several aircraft in a well-coordinated logistics operation. The ships docked at the Ports of Ashdod and Haifa. The consignment comprised thousands of air and ground munitions, military trucks, Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs), and various other defense materials, which were subsequently distributed to military bases throughout the country using hundreds of trucks.
