Iran Accuses US of Ceasefire Violations Amid Rising Tensions

Iran has accused the United States of violating a ceasefire following a series of military strikes near the Strait of Hormuz. The allegations include attacks on Iranian vessels and civilian areas, prompting a strong warning from Iran's military. In response, the US Central Command confirmed strikes on Iranian military sites, asserting that these actions were taken in self-defense. As tensions escalate in the Gulf region, both nations remain on high alert, with Iran threatening a decisive response to any aggression. This situation highlights the fragile state of relations and the potential for further conflict in a strategically vital area.

Iran's Allegations Against the US

Iran has leveled accusations against the United States, claiming it has breached the ceasefire following a series of strikes reported near the Strait of Hormuz. These attacks reportedly targeted locations such as Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and a naval checkpoint in Minab. A spokesperson from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, as reported by IRIB, stated that the US targeted an Iranian oil tanker navigating from the coastal waters near Jask towards the Strait of Hormuz, along with another vessel entering the strait near the UAE's Fujairah port.

The spokesperson further claimed that the US conducted airstrikes on civilian areas in collaboration with certain regional countries, affecting the coasts of Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island. In retaliation, Iran's military reportedly attacked American naval vessels situated east of the Strait of Hormuz and south of Chabahar port, inflicting considerable damage.

Iran has issued a stern warning, stating it will respond decisively to any acts of aggression without hesitation. These allegations surfaced following reports of explosions in and around Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and Sirik in Hormozgan province, a crucial coastal area adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media outlets linked to the IRGC reported blasts on Qeshm Island, while residents of Bandar Abbas reported hearing multiple explosion-like sounds near the southern port city. Some Iranian reports suggested these incidents might be indicative of clashes at sea.

Subsequently, Iranian state media indicated that parts of the Bahman Qeshm pier, a commercial and passenger port at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, were damaged during these exchanges. A correspondent from a major news outlet reported that a senior US official confirmed military strikes on Iran’s Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas, clarifying that this operation did not signify a resumption of hostilities or an end to the ceasefire. The US military also reportedly targeted Iran’s Bandar Kargan naval checkpoint in Minab, according to the same official.

These developments occur against a backdrop of escalating tensions in the Gulf, particularly after reports indicated that Iran had previously launched ballistic and cruise missiles at the UAE’s Fujairah Port. Additionally, Iran has tightened its maritime control in the Strait of Hormuz, mandating that vessels navigate through a designated corridor between Qeshm Island and Larak Island.

US Response to Iranian Attacks

US Says It Struck Iran After Attack On American Warships

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it intercepted Iranian missiles, drones, and boats in the Strait of Hormuz, responding with strikes on Iranian launch sites and command centers in self-defense. According to CENTCOM, no US ships were harmed during these encounters. The update stated, "US forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes as US Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman on May 7. Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and small boats as USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) navigated the international waters. No US assets were struck.

CENTCOM also targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for the attacks on US forces, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes. The command emphasized that it does not seek escalation but remains prepared to protect American forces.
