Match Overview and Injury Update

Ayush Mhatre: The 27th match of IPL 2026 took place between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), resulting in a 10-run defeat for CSK. Adding to their woes, CSK has lost another player to injury, with Khaleel Ahmed already sidelined for the league.

CSK's batting coach, Michael Hussey, provided an update on the injury of young batsman Ayush Mhatre, who suffered a hamstring strain while batting against SRH. The severity of Mhatre's injury is still unclear, which is certainly unfortunate for the team.

Michael Hussey Discusses Ayush Mhatre's Injury

Michael Hussey shared insights on Ayush Mhatre's condition, stating:

“It appears to be a hamstring tear. We are unsure of the extent of the injury. We might conduct a scan tomorrow. It looks quite serious. Unfortunately, losing him would be a significant setback as he was in good form for us.”

Hussey further commented on Mhatre's potential, saying:

“He is an exciting young talent, but this opens up opportunities for others, which is also thrilling. We have some excellent players who haven't had a chance yet, so it will be exciting for one of them. While we are disappointed to lose Ayush, I don't know how long he will be out, but the arrival of a new player is always exciting.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad Analyzes CSK's Loss

After the defeat against SRH, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad addressed the media during the post-match presentation, stating:

“Given how SRH performed in the powerplay, I anticipated a score around 220-230. Restricting them to under 200 was certainly impressive. We needed just 80 runs in the last 10 overs. We only managed four runs in the next two overs after the first 10. Chasing 12 to 13 runs per over in the final overs is quite challenging.”
