Details from the Autopsy Report

The autopsy report of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, found dead in Bhopal, has confirmed that her death was due to "hanging before death." The report also noted multiple blunt force injuries on various parts of her body. Conducted by the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department at AIIMS Bhopal, the autopsy revealed that Twisha was discovered hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on her home terrace around 10:26 PM on May 12. She was declared dead shortly after midnight on May 13.

Findings from the Autopsy Report

According to the report, a red double ligature mark was found around the upper third of her neck, with the skin beneath described as dry, hard, and "scaly." The ligature mark on the back of her neck was noted to be incomplete. Signs associated with asphyxiation were also recorded, including facial swelling, cyanosis of the ears and nails, and petechial hemorrhage in the right eye. In addition to ligature-related findings, the autopsy documented several pre-mortem injuries on her body, including scratches on the left side of her neck, marks on her left upper arm, left wrist, right wrist, and right ring finger, as well as a small 2 cm x 2 cm wound on the left frontal area beneath the skull. During the examination, doctors discovered two small injury marks in the tissues beneath the ligature. "Tardieu spots" were observed in the lungs, typically associated with asphyxiation. Blood clots were also found in the brain, lungs, and abdominal lining. The report further indicated that her uterus was enlarged and contained reddish-brown fragile tissue, suggesting remnants of uterine tissue. It was noted that Twisha had undergone a medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) about a week prior to her death. The medical board concluded that the cause of death was hanging, while other injuries were classified as minor and resulting from blunt force. Additionally, samples of blood, internal organs, nail clippings, and hair were preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for toxicology and DNA testing to rule out the possibility of intoxication and assist in further investigations.

Mother-in-Law Claims Drug Addiction

The case took a new turn when Twisha's mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, alleged that Twisha was addicted to drugs. In a bail application filed on Monday, she claimed that Twisha had a substance abuse problem and that her hands would often tremble if she did not have access to drugs. Notably, Giribala Singh is a retired judge and currently serves as the chairperson of the district consumer forum.
