Toxic Gas Leak Incident in Dhanbad

The district administration of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, has initiated an investigation into a toxic gas leak from underground mines, prompting Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) to evacuate nearly 1,000 residents to safer locations, according to officials.

Reports indicate that on Wednesday, carbon monoxide leaked from several mines in the Kendua Dih locality, leading to the tragic death of a woman and causing illness in 12 others. The exact cause of the woman's death remains undetermined, with confirmation pending the results of a post-mortem examination.

Dhanbad's Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan has ordered a thorough investigation into the gas leak and instructed the coal company to promptly relocate affected residents to safety. He stated, “Action will be taken against those responsible based on the investigation report.”

The DC convened an emergency meeting with officials to discuss the causes of the leak, measures to prevent further incidents, and the status of relocating affected residents. Following the incident, BCCL began evacuating individuals from the 'danger zones' immediately.
